Leinster Under 15's  156/10 (42.2 overs, Andrew Mowatt 43, Josh Uddin 23, PJ Blair 3-20) lost to Derbyshire Under 15's 157/9 (45 overs, Mike Bird 53, Chris Wallace 4-28, Padraic Flanagan 2-28) by 1 wicket.

Leinster Under 15's came within a whisker of recording a famous win against English county side Derbyshire on the opening day of the Staffordshire Under 15 Festival.

An inspired spell of fast bowling from Pembroke's Chris Wallace (4-28) had brought Ireland to the brink of victory, before 53 from Derbyshire's Mike Bird brought them back into contention.

Two wickets from Padraic Flanagan (2-28) saw the game tilt back in Leinster's favour but resolute batting saw Derbyshire get home by one wicket from the last delivery of the game - indeed, Leinster will be kicking themselves as a dropped catch off that final ball gave the county side the points.

Earlier Andrew Mowatt compiled a fluent 43 as Leinster scored 156 all out, receiving good support from Josh Uddin (23). PJ Blair (3-20) was best with the ball for Derbyshire.

Leinster are back in action on the main ground today (Tuesday) when they take on Lincolnshire.
