The chosen venues were Curracloe, Rosslare, Duncannon and The Hook and the age groups involved were 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 12-13 and for the vast majority of these children it was the first time they ever held a bat in their hands.
The weather stayed fine and the feedback was very encouraging. Comments such as ‘I never realised cricket was so much fun’ or ‘this is cool’ were overheard and all in all it was a memorable few days for all involved.
At the end of September the fun moved to New Ross as again club members brought cricket to the town for the first time in many years at an event run by the Community and Enterprise Section of Wexford County Council. Again the event was a great success with many children wanting to know was there a cricket club in the town where they could play. Unfortunately Wexford Wanderers is the only club in County Wexford but there is obviously a lot of interest in the game out there and hopefully in time the game will spread to other areas in the County.
