EOIN MORGAN has been made the scapegoat for England's 3-0 whitewashing by Pakistan in the recent Test series in the UAE and dropped for the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The Middlesex and former Ireland left-hander made his second Test century against India as recently as August but only 82 runs in six innings against Pakistan sealed his fate.

Meanwhile, the system that helped Morgan reach the top has been acknowledged, with Cricket Ireland receiving the International Cricket Council's award for Best Overall Cricket Development Programme.
