STENHOUSEMUIR have re-signed South African star Rushdi Jappie for the new season. The 26 year-old all-rounder made a huge impact on and off the field last year, scoring 280 runs and taking 18 wickets.

However, a club spokesman said: “Rushdi also impressed us with his coaching ability and his infectious enthusiasm. “He eats, sleeps and breathes cricket.”

Stenhousemuir will compete in the newly formed CS Western First Division and open their campaign at Poloc on May 12. The Tryst club’s first competitive action comes with a tough Scottish Cup tie at Forfarshire on April 21.

Meamwhile  Saltires groundsman Lee Spendlove will attend the ICC’s first-ever workshop for groundsmen (curators). Spendlove, who prepares the wicket at the Citylets Grange, will get the chance to pick up and share tips with the head curators and turf managers of all 10 Full Members.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said: “Our strategy recognises the imperative to provide world class venues and no-one can dispute that pitches are central to playing attractive cricket. “I expect this workshop to provide the right platform to share experiences and build skills as we seek to continuously improve and to provide world class environments.”

The event is being held in Dubai.
