SALTIRES bowler Ali Evans has landed a dream deal with Derbyshire. The former Carlton seamer impressed county chiefs following an extended trial last summer.

Evans finished the season as Derbyshire’s leading wicket-taker in the second eleven championship. Now he has been rewarded with a contract which will see him become the lastest Scot to ply his trade on the county circuit.

Evans said: “I’m delighted to get the opportunity and am determined to work hard and make the most of it. Hopefully playing professional cricket at this level will also help my Scotland career.”

Evans, 23, joins fellow Saltires Kyle Coetzer of Northnats and Warwickshire’s Freddie Coleman on the county scene. He goes straight into the squad for today’s championship clash with Glamorgan.
