Pembroke and Phoenix progress in Irish Senior Cup
Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup round-up
Sunday saw both Pembroke and Phoenix progress to the first round proper of the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup after they recorded convincing wins against Malahide and Rush respectively.
At Sydney Parade, skipper Theo Lawson led by example when he top scored with 89 as his side racked up 227 for 7 in their 50 overs.
Kelly chipped in with a useful 39, while Irish international Allan Eastwood weighed in with an unbeaten 35.
Eastwood then tore the Malahide batting apart as he claimed 5 for 23, and Bill Whaley took 3-10 as Malahide crashed to 62 all out in just 18.5 overs.
Pembroke's reward for their 165 run win is a home tie with 2000 winners Donemana.
A rain affected encounter at Kenure saw Rush lose to Phoenix by 9 wickets under DL.
Shahid Iqbal (79) and Sean Monks (40) helped the home side to 210 for 9, but that proved no challenge for a rampant Phoenix, for whom MD Masud Ahmed scored a quite brilliant unbeaten 91.
Phoenix now have a home tie with Civil Service North when the first round is played on Saturday May 12.
