SALTIRES star Richie Berrington has been farmed-out to Leicestershire on a one-month loan deal.
However, the all-rounder, who has become a key member of the side since making his debut in 2007, will be available for Sunday’s CB40 opener against Surrey.
Coach Pete Steindl said: “This is a great chance for Richie to play some additional high-level cricket and who knows what it might lead to for him.
“But we are delighted that he will still be available to us during our CB40 campaign.”
Greenock star Berrington has already amassed 88 caps, scoring more than 2,000 runs and claiming 67 wickets.
The 25 year-old has also earned a reputation as one of the best fielders in the game.
Berrington, who has scored two international centuries, boasts a highest CB40 score of 82 against Warwickshire two seasons ago.
He turned down the chance of a permanent move to Leicestershire a year ago but has been given a second chance to join fellow Scots Kyle Coetzer and Ali Evans on the county circuit.
The Scot, whose loan will be reviewed after the initial period, made his debut for Leicestershire in a 2nd XI clash with Durham yesterday.
Meanwhile the Saltires squad for Sunday’s clash with CB40 cup holders Surrey will be announced today.
