YMCA registered their first win of the season edging out Merrion by 3 wickets in a relatively low scoring affair at Anglesea Road.

South Australia professional Tim Lang was one of the few players to master the conditions, as he top scored with 61 from 76 balls (2 fours, 4 sixes). His run out by the combination of Simmi Singh and Robbie Garth saw Merrion collapse from 136-5, losing their last 5 wickets for 28 runs.

Lang received very little meaningful support, with John Anderson (18) and Rory Allwright (15) the next highest scorers in the Merrion total of 164 all out in 50 overs.

Left armer Reinhard Strydom bowled well to claim 3 for 18, while Ahmed (2-26) also kept the brakes on the Merrion scoring.

A solid batting display saw YMCA home, with Strydom (27), and Ahmed (37) giving them a solid base after the early dismissal of Alan Lewis for just 3.

Simmi Singh (16) and Trent Johnston (8) both went relatively cheaply to give Merrion a sniff of a chance, but Irish international Albert van der Merwe held firm.

Van Der Merwe showed his mettle in making an unbeaten 34, sahring stands with Sameer Dutt (11) and Robbie Garth (14) to get YM home and get their season up and running.
