Tim Murtagh scoops Middlesex CCC’s Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month award for April 2012
Middlesex County Cricket Club’s principal sponsor, Brooks Macdonald, is delighted to announce that after an exceptional start to the season, Tim Murtagh has been selected as the Middlesex CCC Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month for April 2012.
Tim enjoyed a brilliant month with both bat and ball in April, finishing the month on top of the Middlesex CCC batting averages, having scored 185 runs at an average of 37 and performed well with the ball, taking 12 wickets at an average of 27.58 in the club’s four First-Class fixtures.
Murtagh opened his 2012 batting account with a fine unbeaten 31 not out at Merchant Taylors against Durham MCCU in Middlesex’s opening First-Class match of the season, and also took 1 for 27 in both of the Universities innings.
He followed this up with an important 45 in Middlesex’s first innings at the County Ground in Taunton against Somerset, as well as taking three wickets in the match. Against Surrey at Lord’s Murtagh again hit a crucial 31 and delivered match winning figures of 4 for 43 as Surrey were bowled out in their second innings to secure an incredible victory for Middlesex.
Murtagh finished off the month of April with another fine knock of 45 and collected a three wicket haul in the match, as Middlesex and Durham had to settle for a draw in a rain affected encounter at Lord’s.
Middlesex’s Assistant Coach, Richard Johnson, commented: “Tim has played a major part in what was been a great start to life back in the top flight of the County Championship for Middlesex. For a number of seasons now Tim has been ‘Mr Reliable’ with the ball and you come to expect that his name will feature with some regularity in the wickets column.
"What has been a real bonus however are the important runs that Tim has scored with the bat. He works extremely hard at his batting and it’s great to see that this is paying dividends, with Tim adding some important runs down the order for Middlesex.”
Tim was presented with the Brooks Macdonald Player of the Month Award for April before the start of the Middlesex Panthers Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Gloucestershire at Lord’s on Monday May 7th 2012, when he accepted a cheque for £1,000 and a magnum of Bollinger champagne, courtesy of Brooks Macdonald.
