CALUM MacLeod last night shrugged-off his match-winning heroics and insisted every victory for Scotland is special.

MacLeod notched his first half-century against county opposition as the Saltires stunned Notts with an easy 18-run D/L win in Edinburgh.

The former Warwickshire star also equalled a Scottish fielding record with four catches.

MacLeod said: “The most important thing is to get a win.

“We always say we are not content simply to be competitive against the counties - we want to beat them consistently.

“Of course I’m delighted with my contribution and I feel I’m starting to get more consistent but the best thing is that the team won and it’s great to do it so early in the campaign.”

While the Saltires hopes were dashed by rain against Surrey on Sunday, it worked to their advantage yesterday as MacLeod and new opening partner Josh Davey were able to pace their run-chase to perfection.

MacLeod added: “We felt we were done a bit by the rain on Sunday but also that we could have been a bit more aggressive.

“I think we learned from that in the way we went about things today.

“I learned this morning that Josh would be opening with me and we had a chat about how we wanted to play and it worked well.

“I wasn’t aware about equalling the catching record but I wish now I’d managed one more!”

Coach Pete Steindl said: “Calum was very aggressive and stuck to his best options.

“He batted really well and Josh gave great support and the pair of them always kept us ahead of the asking rate and got us over the line.

“I also thought we were solid with ball in hand as well so it was a good all-round performance.”

The Saltires continue their CB40 campaign against the Welsh Dragons at Uddingston on Sunday.
