Joyce stars as Ireland open campaign with win
An unbeaten half century from Cecelia Joyce helped Ireland begin their ECB Division 3 campaign with a win against Huntingdon & Cambridgeshire.
Chasing 130 for the win, Joyce scored an unbeaten 55 from 78 balls (5 fours), with the only other double figure contributions coming from her twin sister Isobel, who made 14, and Clare Shillington (11).
Ireland's chase was helped by the addition of 33 extras which meant they reached their target with 26.1 overs and five wickets to spare. Nicky McCready (2-20) was the pick of the home side attack.
The Irish had also been generous with their extras, conceding 40 (including 26 wides) as rustiness showed in the early season encounter.
Lily Reynolds scored a patient 53 for the hosts in their total of 129 for 8 in 50 overs.
The Irish attack all fared well, with debutant Clodagh Conway (2-17), Louise McCarthy (2-26), Shauna Kavanagh (1-14), and Isobel Joyce (1-16) the wicket takers.
A sharp Irish fielding performance was exemplified by run outs for both Cecelia Joyce and Clodagh Conway.
Ireland's game with Leicestershire which fell victim to the weather on Sunday is expected to be refixed at a future date.
It promises to be quite a busy summer for the women with games scheduled as follows:
