Canada win Americas Women's Championship
The first ICC tournament to be held in the Cayman Islands since the 2004 Americas Under-15 Championship has been won by Canada on net run rate after a rained off final day prevented a play-off with the USA.
Canada and the USA were easily the best teams in the tournament, and the schedule was set up to ensure that the two would meet on the final day in a decider, but the final day rain prevented that from happening. There were rumours circulating that the match would be rescheduled for the following morning before the teams flew home, but that never took place.
Hosts the Cayman Islands were playing their first matches in women's cricket, and they finished fourth, beating Brazil by seven wickets on the penultimate day of the tournament. Argentina finished third for the third consecutive tournament, whilst Bermuda finished fifth, with Brazil at the foot of the table.
Canada will now play in the global qualifier for the 2014 Women's World Twenty20, which will be played some time next year.
