Valkyres’ title hopes have been dented by the recent dreadful weather. On Sunday they were expected to beat Castletown and so go clear at the top of the Standard Bank Premiership.

The Town are next to the bottom in the table with only one league victory all season. The Douglas team stood one point behind leaders Cronkbourne, but had played two games less.

However torrential rain washed out the Castletown fixture, leaving Valkyres with just one point from an abandoned match. They are now equal on points with Cronkbourne, but have only one game in hand. Later in the season the two sides will clash at Tromode in what could be the title decider.

There has been no play at all during the last two Saturdays, but hopes are high that the weather will relent this week-end. There are exciting fixtures in the Standard Bank Cain League and on Sunday the semi-finals of the Blincoe Cup.

Top attraction in the Cain should be at Ramsey where the home side meet Valkyres. Both sides favour attacking cricket and are ideally suited for the Twenty20 format.

Cronkbourne have used some adventurous running between the wickets in their T20 evening matches. The Douglas side go west to take on Peel, who many see has contenders for the title.

In the south Castletown will be looking to regain form and an unpredictable Crosby side could be in big trouble. All games start at 2pm with bowlers allowed a maximum of four overs.
