SCOTLAND rookie Freddie Coleman was celebrating last night after claiming one of English cricket's most prestigious prizes.

The 20-year-old won the Walter Lawrence MCC Universities Award for his brilliant batting for Oxford.

Coleman hit 141 against Durham at the Racecourse Ground in April - the highest tally by any player on the top flight university circuit.

The Edinburgh-born ace, who has represented his country at all levels and has also played for Warwickshire 2nd XI this season, will receive a silver medallion and prize of £1,000 at a presentation dinner in The Long Room at Lord’s in October.

Coleman, meanwhile, is aiming to propel Scotland to success in the Under-19 World Cup in Australia next month.

Coach Craig Wright last night revealed his finalised squad, which will be led by Paddy Saddler, with Matt Cross the vice captain.

Squad: P Sadler, M Cross, A Bailwal, F Coleman, H Edwards, N Farrar, G Main, T McBride, S McElnea, R McLean, S Page, P Ross, K Smith, R Smith, A Umeed.
