THERE was more misery for Strathmore Union and East League cricketers on Saturday as rain again decimated the fixture list. While the entire Union Premier Division card was wiped-out, the torment suffered by East League basement boys Largo was surely even greater.

The men from East Drive were still looking for their first win of the season when they were sent in to bat by visitors Dunfermline Knights. In tricky conditions the Largo openers responded by posting their best start of the season in a partnership of 92. Nicky Rintoul made a half-century and Alex Anderson 41 before both fell in quick succession.

However, Naveen Rajagopal took up the fight with an unbeaten 28 and the home side had reached a promising 147-2 after 31 overs. Hopes were high that they could convert such a start into a winning total. Instead, and with an almost grim inevitability, the weather intervened decisively, a torrential downpour forcing the players from the field. Sadly, they were unable to return and so Largo remain rooted to the bottom of the table and still without that elusive first victory.

At the other end of the table leaders Glenrothes were idle for the third week in a row, their match at Holy Cross having been called off on Friday.
