Cricket Scotland Prepare for Festival Square Takeover
Cricket Scotland has been given the opportunity to occupy the iconic capital square for two days (17-18 July). The event will be open to the public and media and will take place from 10am to 5pm.
Cricket Scotland’s partners, Cricket Factory, will be bringing their full rig to the capital for the event, which will allow anyone and everyone the opportunity to try their skills at Scotland’s fastest growing participation sport.
There will be a visit from the newly elected ICC President, Alan Issac, on Tuesday, as part of his UK visit, providing him with the opportunity to witness first-hand the increasing popularity of the sport in Scotland.
Cricket Factory’s Pete Gray said, ahead of the event, “We are very excited to be working with Cricket Scotland at this flagship event in Festival Square. This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate the sport to young people and families in the City and to support Cricket Scotland in growing the game.”
Scotland’s captain, Gordon Drummond, along with other players from Scotland’s Senior and Junior representative sides, will be in attendance over the two days, while the Cricket Scotland coaching team will be running various activities and stations, allowing anybody to ‘give it a go’.
Drummond added, “This is a great opportunity to promote the sport of cricket in Scotland. It’s rare that you get the opportunity to run such events in the middle of Scotland‘s capital City. The Cricket Factory rig will allow the public to experience cricket skills in fun and exciting new ways. The guys are looking forward to a fun couple of days”
Ahead of the event Cricket Scotland Head of Community Development, Steve Paige, commented, “This is going to be a fantastic two days of activity with the Scottish public having their first visit by the Cricket Factory rig. There will even be a fun opportunity for participants to measure themselves against the Saltires players. ”
