Cronkbourne have won the Standard Bank Tinker Cup. On Sunday they beat Valkyres by 70 runs at Tromode. Cronkbourne batted first and got away to a great start when openers Max Stokoe and Ryan Burns put on 132 for the first wicket. Andy Coulson then trapped Stokoe for 53 and dismissed Burns for 79. Paul Haswell hit 34 and the innings ended on 217. In reply Valkyres lost three wickets quickly, but Tom Reader and Aurangzeb Ghausi came together for a fine stand. While they were at the wicket Valkyres were in with a chance, but hopes disappeared when Tom was bowled by Max Stokoe for 46. Aurangzeb went for 33 and the tail fell to Stokoe who took 4 wickets for 23. The Cup was presented to Cronkbourne by Chris Till of sponsors Standard Bank. The Man of The Match award went to Max Stokoe.
On Saturday Great batting by Max and Alex Stokoe took Cronkbourne to a fine win over leaders Ramsey in the Standard Bank Cain League. The Douglas side turned in their best display of the season in making 164 for one from their twenty overs. Chris McConnell claimed an early wicket for the northern club, but after that there was no stopping the Stokoe brothers. Max ended on 65 not out, while Alex hit 87 which included 23 off one over. Ramsey made a valiant effort to get the runs with Jamie Moffatt crashing 38 and Ollie Webster 20. However, their efforts were thwarted by a good spell from Chris Hewson who took 3 -28. Cronkbourne restricted the batsmen to 138 for 7 and so recorded a 26 run victory.
Castletown are now top of the table after a big win over Valkyres at Tromode. Paceman Garreth Roome was on fire to return the amazing figures of 4 wickets for no runs off his four overs. His bowling was described by one neutral as the best seen on the Island this year. Valkyres had no answer to the Town attack and were dismissed for 43. Jas Singh scored a brave 25, but three run outs stopped any hope of a recovery after the Roome blitz. Wicus Wessels made 24 as Castletown reached their target for the loss of only one wicket.
Greg Hawke returned to form to help Peel beat Crosby at Mullen-e-Cloie. He cracked an excellent 39 as his side reached 172 for 7. The star of the innings was Phil Littlejohns whose stylish 67 not out was littered with sixes. In reply Crosby were in contention at 70 for 1 after ten overs. Then Hawke struck, sending back Jamie Brown for an aggressive 41 and Jack Rowlands who made 17. The Marown side did not recover from this setback and ended 37 runs short on 135 for 6.

St John’s B lost their first game of the season when the top two sides in Forrester Division Three clashed on Thursday. Batting first Finch Hill got away to a good start with openers Roy Corlett and Marc Furness scoring 50 in the first seven overs. The Saints then hit back as Tim Wood dismissed Corlett for 13 and Will Bayley took the next three wickets for only three runs. The Finches picked up just ten runs in the following five overs, but Furness rallied the tail. Aided by Matt Ogden, he took the final total to 120 and his own score to a 58 not out. In reply St John’s made a solid start and kept pace with the required run rate until Joe Burrows joined the attack. The batsmen then struggled against tight bowling and after 15 overs the run rate needed had shot up to nine an over. Paul Nicholson and Bayley hit out and 20 were wanted from the final twelve deliveries. Nicholson departed, bowled by Burrows for 38 and opener Bayley went the same way for 29. With 15 needed from the last over, Neil Shimmin smashed the first ball for six and the next was a wide. However Burrows kept his nerve to claim a well-deserved victory for Finch Hill by six runs. They now lead the table by one point over the Saints, but they have a game in hand. Lurking just one point behind again is Castletown C. It looks like a tight three way battle for promotion.
