Ireland Women go to top of the table
Ireland's women moved to the top of the ECB Division Five County Championship with a comprehensive 9 wicket win in a rain reduced contest against Hertfordshire.
Following the frustration of the previous day's game with Gloucestershire being abandoned, the Irish bowlers soon set about their task as the home side struggled to get any sort of momentum.
Hertfordshire could only manage 109 all out with four balls of their 44 unused. Anna Swan top scored with 17, while Alexis Mannion and Nikki Little both made 15 apiece.
Skipper Isobel Joyce led by example taking 3 for 19, while Louise McCarthy (2-8) and Kim Garth (2-12) both bowled well. The other wicket takers for the Irish were Laura Delany, Laura Cullen (1-13), and Amy Kenealy (1-18).
The modest total was never likely to cause any major concern for the powerful Irish batting line up and so it proved as Clare Shillington struck 6 boundaries as she raced to 37 from just 26 balls.
Shillington and Cecelia Joyce had added 55 before South African Anje Lague induced a false stroke from Shillington to break the partnership.
That was to be the end of the success for the home team, as the Joyce twins took no chances in securing the 9 wicket win.
Cecelia finished on 40 not out (49 balls, 3 fours), while skipper Isobel made an undefeated 26 (50 balls, 3 fours).
Ireland are next in action when they play Derbyshire this weekend, while they take on Scotland at Bready in August following the conclusion of the European Championships.
