Double success for Ireland Women
Ireland's Women continued their excellent form in 2012 with back-to-back wins in the ECB T20 cup in Dunstable.
In truth the Irish were never troubled recording resounding victories in both matches. Against Bedofrdshire they racked up an imposing 218 for just the loss of one wicket.
The only slight disappointment was Melissa Scott-Hayward falling just short of a century - she finished on 97 not out. Clare Shillington made 58, while skipper Isobel Joyce made an unbeaten 42.
Bedfordshire didn't seem to grasp the concept of Twenty20, crawling to 46-4 when the overs were up. Louise McCarthy (3-3) was the pick of a very impressive Irish attack in the 172 run win.
The game against Hunts and Cambs was nearly as emphatic for the rampant Irish.
This time it was teenager Kim Garth who just missed out on a hundred - she finished on 93 not out as the Irish made 175 for 4 in their allotted overs. Melissa Scott-Hayward continued her good form with a rapid 32.
Hunts and Cambs laboured to 53-9 in their innings, with two wickets apiece for Garth (2-5), Joyce (2-5) and Cullen (2-4) in the 122 run win.
The Irish are back in action today with a game against Norfolk this morning, followed by a final this afternoon.
