Ireland Women gain promotion
Ireland's women cricketers made it four out of four in the ECB T20 Championship, thereby securing promotion to Division Two next season.
Yet again the outcomes of the fixtures were never really in any doubt, recording comprehensive wins in both ties. The weather was the only potential problem for the Irish, but that too was overcome for the successful squad.
Against Norfolk the depth of the Irish squad was shown as fringe players Emma Beamish and Rebecca Rolfe starred. Beamish hit an unbeaten 83 and Rolfe 33 in a total of 183 for 2. Skipper Isobel Joyce also chipped in with an undefeated 36.
Norfolk made no attempt to chase down the Irish total as they crawled to 43 for 8, leaving Ireland winners by a mammoth 140 runs.
In the 1st/2nd place play-off Ireland had scored 71/0 after 7 overs when the rain came. Clare Shillington (40*) and Melissa Scott-Hayward (27*) continuing their good form with the bat.
The rain relented long enough for Hunts and Cambs to chase the same target under the e ECB regulations for the competition - they didn't get anywhere remotely close as Laura Delany took two wickets to restrict them to 24 for 3.
Congratulations to the successful squad who continue their excellent form and who will enter next week's European Championship with confidence.
