Netherlands and Jersey tie a see-saw game
The Netherlands and Jersey tied in a rain affected game that twice saw Jersey come back from almost certain defeat.
Batting first after the Netherlands won the toss, Jersey initially were struggling against the spin of Asad Zulfiqar and Daniel Doram. They were 73-7 at one point, but a break for a sudden rain shower gave them chance to regroup.
After the interval, Jersey batted with much more confidence, and the eighth wicket pair took the total to 160-7 when the innings ended after 50 overs. Asad Zulfiqar was the pick of the Dutch bowlers with 4-16.
Two further rain interruptions reduced the Dutch target to 139 from 34 overs. Like Jersey earlier in the day the Dutch struggled to start with, and had scored 33 when the third wicket fell, before a 43 run partnership for the fourth wicket steadied their innings.
Towards the end of the innings though, Jersey began to tighten the screw, bowling economically and fielding well. The Netherlands couldn't find any impetus to their run chase, and whilst it should have been easy when ten were needed from the final four overs, they didn't quite make it. Two were needed from the last ball, and the Dutch could only manage one, the match ending in a tie.
A good performance by Jersey to get a tie, but the Dutch will be very disapointed, as they twice threw away a winning position, both with the ball and the bat.
