An unbroken fourth wicket stand of 131 between James Shannon and Lee Nelson led their Northern team to a seven wicket win against the South, to level the series at one all.

Shannon's recent prolific form continued as he scored an unbeaten 95 from 91 balls (8 fours, 4 sixes), playing some superbly timed strokes all round the wicket.

He found the perfect foil in his former Ireland Under 19 colleague Lee Nelson who scored an undefeated 53 from 43 deliveries (4 fours, 1 six).

The pair came together at 111 for 3 in the 31st over after the dismissal of skipper Andrew White for just 3.

The pair then proceeded to bat the South out of the game as they added 131 in just 92 balls as the win was secured with 3.5 overs remaining.

Nigel Jones (26) had added 50 for the first wicket before being bowled by representative debutant Joe Carroll.

Chris Dougherty made a patient 48 from 87 balls before being lbw to Kevin O'Brien.

Earlier O'Brien had dominated the Southern total of 237 for 9 as he shared partnerships of 80 with Andrew Poynter (50) and Eddie Richardson (18).

He fell on 99 to a diving catch by Lee Nelson on the point boundary having faced 103 balls (7 fours, 2 sixes).

The Northern new ball pairing of Peter Connell (2-43) and Johnny Thompson (2-34) caused the weakened Southern team plenty of problems, while Gary Kidd (2-31) also impressed on his return in the representative ranks.

Cricket Ireland President Arthur Vincent presented the RSA Inter-Regional Series trophy to captains Andrew White and Kevin O'Brien.

James Shannon was unsurprisingly named Man of the Match for his 95 not out, while Lee Nelson was nominated Man of the Series following a fine bolwing display in the game art Waringstown and his half century here.
