An exciting week-end is in store with the final matches in the Standard Bank Cain League. Any one of three teams could take the title, but Cronkbourne are in poll position and the championship is theirs to lose. Last Sunday all the games were washed out by the dreadful weather – and that included the key fixture – Cronkbourne v Ramsey at Tromode. If Ramsey had won, they would have gone into the number one spot with just one game left. The wiped out match means one point to each side and Cronkbourne remain clear at the top. Ramsey are just one point behind – and the final round of matches are this Sunday. Cronkbourne probably have the easier game when they meet a Crosby side who are now out of the running for a top four spot and a place in the President’s Day T20 finals. However the Douglas team will need to be at their best, a slip-up here will be fatal. Ramsey have a difficult encounter with Castletown who are two points behind the leaders. If the Town beat Ramsey and Cronkbourne lose, then there will be a tie for the number one slot. In that case the honours will go to the team with the higher net run rate. So in theory any one of three clubs could be celebrating on Sunday evening. Most pundits will go for a Cronkbourne victory, but there might be some more shocks in store. The race is not over yet.
Whatever happens on Sunday, Ramsey will have some silverware to show off. Their “A” team have now won the evening Standard Bank Forrester Division One. In a good campaign, they lost only one game and had a margin of five points over second placed Castletown A. Valkyres A ended just one point behind the Town.
A Ladies Tournament will be taking place at Ballafletcher this week-end. Taking part are Vikings, Cronkbourne-Baccas and a touring English side. The matches are on both Saturday and Sunday with Ballafletcher as the location.
