Ireland's women cricketers clinched the ECB Division 3 county championships when an inspired abtting performance from skipper Isobel Joyce helped them to a comprehensive 58 run win against Gloucestershire in their play-off game.

Yet again the weather intervened in this rain hit season reducing the match to a 28 overs per side contest, but the Irish batters played positively from the outset to put 170 for 3 on the board.

Isobel Joyce struck 11 boundaries in her unbeaten 70 from just 57 balls, with Cecelia playing the anchor role as her unbeaten 48 came in 69 balls (3 fours).

The pair added 105 for the second wicket after the dismissal of Clare Shillington for a brisk 22.

Eimear Richardson contributed a breezy 20, inlcuding a six and 2 fours as Ireland piled on the runs.

Chloe Davis (2-10) was one of the few home side bowlers to escape punishment.

In reply the disciplined Irish bowlers always kept the home side in check and by the time Alex McDonald (42) and Fae Morros (31) had taken the total to 86 for 1 the required rate was already well into double figures.

Wickets for Kim Garth, Louise McCarthy, and Eimear Richardson had Gloucestershire on the ropes, allowing Laura Delany to apply the coup de grace, taking 3 for 3 as Glocs finished 58 runs adrift on 112 for 7.

Ireland now await the outcome of The Netherlands v Durham game for their next opponents, where a win for Ireland would see them gain promotion to the next tier of ECB cricket.

Ireland 170/3 (28 overs, Isobely Joyce 70, Cecelia Joyce 48*, Clare Shillington 22, Eimear Richardson 20, Chole Davis 2-20) beat Gloucestershire 112/7 (28 overs, Alex McDonald 42, Fae Morris 31, Laura Delany 3-3) by 58 runs.
