The Jersey Cricket Board recently ran an ECB Level 2 coaching course organised by Cricket Development Manager Lee Meloy and tutored by Jersey National Coach Neil MacRae and ECB Coach Education Tutors Jason Shambrook and Jeremy Frith.

Thirteen coaches took part - 8 for the Coaching Children course and 5 for the Coaching Young People & Adults course. The coaches were from Jersey Ladies Cricket, several Jersey clubs, Jersey Community Sport and JCB junior age group coaches.

The course consists of 8 modules including an assessment over three weekends. Candidates also have to do 40 hours of online learning and take part in 6 supported practice sessions.

During the second weekend tutors brought in players from junior and senior age groups to allow the coaches to experience the "real thing" rather than coach their peers. It is something not usually done during coaching courses but was very successful.

Lee Meloy said "It was a great experience for coaches and tutors as it was the first time these level 2 courses have been run on the island since their revamp 2 years ago. We were very impressed with the standard of coaching on display and are extremely proud that these coaches will be giving up their time to help develop cricket in Jersey. The new courses are very demanding of the coaches but they stuck with it and you could already see huge improvements."

The final assessments for the course will take place on Saturday 26th March and we wish all the coaches the very best of luck.
