MAX SORENSEN'S Cricket World Cup hopes took a blow yesterday when it was confirmed that the opening bowler had suffered an ankle injury.

The Hills paceman took a knock against Scotland in Malahide and sat out yesterday's interpro and could yet miss this month’s warm-up tour to Australia/New Zealand.

Sorensen’s misfortune could open a gap in the squad which could be filled by Peter Chase after a strong start to his career at Durham.

The selectors and coach Phil Simmons have been sifting through the evidence of the Celtic Series win last week and today name their 18-man squad.

It is expected that Alex Cusack will be given a chance to prove his fitness on tour. The Clontarf all-rounder hasn’t played for club or country since May 10TH.

One name which definitely won’t be on the list is that of Ed Joyce who has asked to be given a rest after a busy season as Sussex captain.

The main topic of discussion was likely to be between openers John Anderson and Andrew Balbirnie, with the latter shading the battle in the Scotland series.
