This past Monday evening we saw all the action kick off in the ladies league, and although rain disrupted many more games, two managed to go on.

Eglinton played host to Newbuildings, the home side picked up their third victory of the season by a 33 runs.

Batting first, Eglinton’s start wasn’t ideal after losing opener, Megan McClintock (4) in the second over of the innings leaving the total at 7 for 1 after 2.

But then with a 68 run partnership between Gail Ritchie (26*) and Leanne Gaille (40*) helped the hosts achieve a final total worth 94 runs.

In response Newbuildings got off to a rapid start due to the batting by C Curry (11) and L Riddles (26).

Unfortunately the pair were unlucky chasing down the final runs due to running out of overs, Newbuildings finished with a final total worth 61 runs.

This week we saw Bonds Glen travel to Magheramason to take on the league favourites, Bready.

Batting first, the Beegee’s got off to a comfortable start with openers, Lorraine Brandon (19) and Kylie McGarrigle (4) setting the total to 33 after 5 overs before McGarrigle was well caught on the boundary by Hollie George.

From this point onwards the visitors seemed to stay unsettled due to a fantastic spell of bowling from Steph Wilkinson (4-17 off 4), Bonds Glen lost their next 9 wickets for an additional 18 runs giving them a final total of 51.

Bready’s reply got off to a rocky start after losing opener Vanessa Buchanan (4) in the third over, with the total now at 12 for 1 off 3.

It then was the task of Nicky Flanagan (25*) and Steph Wilkinson (13) to chase down the final runs. The pair put on a 40 run partnership that helped them gain a total of 52 runs and another win.

After achieving their seventh victory it now means that Bready now go joint top of the league with Strabane Saints.
