Ireland slumped to an emphatic eight wicket loss to Bangladesh in their final warm-up match in Bangalore.

Batting first the Irish had no answer to the wily spin of Rumana Ahmed who claimed four wickets for just 12 runs.

Clare Shillington (1), Cecelia Joyce (4), Robyn Lewis (6), and Shauna Kavanagh (2) all went cheaply as Ireland reeled on 13 for 4.

There was a recovery of sorts as Laura Delany (17), Isobel Joyce (16) and Kim Garth (11) all reached double figures, gaining valuable time in the middle.

However, a final total of 74 for 9 was never likely to test Bangladesh, and so it proved.

They reached their modest target in just 12.3 overs, with Sharmin Akhter making an unbeaten 36.

Ciara Metcalfe (1-12) and Lucy O'Reilly (1-23) were the successful Irish bowlers in a chastening loss.

Head Coach Aaron Hamilton reflected on the defeat saying: " It was a very disappointing batting display today. We went away from our processes which caused back to back wickets being lost throughout our innings.

" We played a lot of really good cricket against India on Thursday but we didn't want to get our hands dirty today. We now have the opportunity to get a couple of training sessions in before we play New Zealand."

Ireland begin their tournament in earnest when they take on New Zealand in Mohail on Friday.
